A Mother Forever

Can you ever stop being a mother? Is there a time in life when you say, “You’re all grown up, you don’t need me any more”? No, I’m finding out. Our son will be officially retired from the navy as of May  1. He arrived here Saturday evening from Japan and we are treasuring his company. Both my husband and I are trying to help him navigate this major life transition, putting him in contact with people who may be able to help him find a job. Right now, he has no solid prospects (it’s very hard to secure a job when you’re half way ’round the world!), and his family is today packing up their household goods for the overseas move. It will all work out, but only with lots of effort. And we are so happy to be able to contribute in some small way.

So are you ever done mothering? No! You’re a mother forever.
